| No matter which technique is adopted, whole eye and retina area should be inspected and examined in detail before Excimer laser treatment. Cornea topography (maps) and thickness must absolutely be inspected carefully. Persons over 18 years old and who have not any other eye diseases which may impede the treatment are generally deemed suitable for excimer laser treatment. As long as no cataract or nuclear sclerosis which is preliminary phase of cataract is in question, there is no upper age limit for the treatment.
Expectations of patients who undergo Excimer laser treatment are highly important. Detailed information about the process must be provided and they should be told about possible complications and recovery period. During the interview, expectations of the patient should be well assessed and psychological readiness of the patient should be weighed. When necessary, patient should be given a consideration period and those with high expectations should be cautioned and provided detailed explanations.

Medical insurance in the Netherlands does not evaluate excimer laser treatment a medical necessity. That is why they will not cover the costs.
