What happens before and after Excimer Laser Treatment?
Before surgery
- You'll visit our Dutch Eye doctor where you bring your filled in questionnaire.
- Our Eye doctor goes through your questionnaire with you to see whether there are any contra indications for Excimer Laser treatment for you.
- Furthermore the eye doctor has a conversation with you about Excimer Laser.
- The doctor fulfills an optometry and eye examination and investigation tot see if you are a eligible candidate for eye laser operation.
- After arrival at the clinic in Istanbul you will need an initial or extensive evaluation by the surgeons. This will take please meanly on Friday and last only an hour.
- If you wear contact lenses, it is good idea to stop wearing them before your baseline evaluation in The Netherlands and switch to wearing your glasses full-time.
- If you wear; Soft contact lenses, you should stop wearing them 2 weeks before your initial evaluation.
- Toric contact lenses or rigid gas permeable (RGP)lenses, you should stop wearing them for at least 3 weeks before your initial evaluation in The Netherlands. Hard lenses, you should stop wearing them for at least 4 weeks before your initial evaluation in The Netherlands.
- The day before surgery, you should stop using; creams, lotions, makeup, perfumes. These products as well as debris along the eyelashes may increase the risk of infection during and after surgery.
- If upon eye examination and investigation, it is decided that no operation is necessary, the patient will receive all the services included in the package except the operation, the post-operation examination and medication (which means a 100 Euro from the price of the package) and will continue with the scheduled holiday.
After Surgery
- Unlike some other procedures, patients usually do not need to wear a bandage. But we recommend that you wear sunglasses after surgery.
- Patients are provided with medicated eye drops for approximately 1-2 weeks following the procedure. All patients then continue with re-wetting drops for approximately 3-6 months.
- The first evaluation takes place in de surgeons clinic in Turkey. This is 24 hours after de operation to see if the operation was technically successful and if you are permitted to travel back to Holland.
- 4 hours after the treatment, signs of lacrimation, itching and pain diminish.
- This fast recovery period enables patients go back to their normal lives the day after the surgery. However, for at least two weeks you will need to avoid activities that would cause perspiration to run into the eye.
- Patients can get shower 2 days after and can go to swim with goggles in one week.
- You may start using eye makeup after 1 month.
- It is very important not to rub the eye(s) after the week following by treatment.
- The second evaluation takes place 3 days after the operation. In Holland our Dutch eye doctor performs this evaluation.
- The next evaluation is than 3 weeks later.
- Then 3 months after this evaluation our eye doctor performs another evalution.
- Again 6 month later he performs the last evaluation.
