What is LASIK (Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis)?

LASIK is internationally successfully used for over ten years. Under anesthesia (eye drop) the surgeon cuts a flap of the surface of the cornea. This flap is carefully turned over by the surgeon(A). With cold laser impulses he reshapes the cornea underneath this surface flap by carefully vaporizing tissue(B). After the laser impulses the surgeon replaces the surface flap. It sucks itself to the underneath cornea without stitches (C). Because of the new shape (curvature) of the cornea project the eye the light on the retina (back of the eye). The advantage of LASIK-treatment is that both eyes can be done at once.
The treatment is almost painless and the fast recovery shows visible result for the next day: 980f the treated people where driving their car without using glasses the next day. The result may take a few days till a few weeks to reach its optimum.
